Viva Cuba! May 2011 with Lisa P.

May 2011 : Cuba is for lovers and kiters in May!

Headed to Cuba with my best friend Lisa, for a last minute Cuban vacation at Cayo Libertad, Varadero.
Thanx to Ryan at Flight Center for finding us a great last minute deal, and at a 5 star all inclusive, yet!

Spent the first day quite concerned we were gonna miss it, as there was a fierce rainstorm/monsoon and May is when the season changes there but in the end it all worked out (... doesn't it always?)

Rigged the 12m Boss but left it out on the beach in the pouring rain when the lightning seeemed to strike awfully close...no session is worth your life!

Kited the Boss upwind the next day along the shore of the inlet next to the resort.
And went way upwind on the 5.10 Gambler surfboard to follow the large tourist catamarangs back from Cayo Blanco. Super fun surfing alongside them on the way back in.

Rode the 9m. Smoke and 6m Gypsy several days after as it got windier . I was pretty lit in the inlet next to the Barcelo Marina resort, at the very eastern tip of Varadero where we stayed. Lovely spot.
Rode out to the markers and chased the tourist boats back in pretty much daily.

The next day we set up out front around the corner on the beach and played close by played on the new WH Gambler 5.10 in quad fin mode. Really fun easy riding board in the junky swell.  Some sandy reefs that set up a little swell -really had some good times
riding around in lighter winds and small swell near the mouth of the inlet on the way back in as the tide rose.

Most days were spent on the Smoke hovering over the water on Joke138 twintip in the inlet or streaking upwind on the Gambler 5.10 surfboard.

One evening spent some time hovering over the little fishing boats heading out and playing tag with the locals fishing. they seemed to enjoy watching me skip across the water nearby. It probably didn't hurt I was shouting-Viva Cuba as I went by. Ive been to Cuba three times twice for kiting and once for diving and have always found the locals to be extrememly friendly. It is a great place for a quick inexpensive getaway.

The very last night we had a wonderful evening on the beach after kiting all day .

Lisa & I swam naked under the moonlight drank champagne among the beautiful glowing bio luminescence. Amazing experience.

Wow what a night-skinny dipping and champagne! Wonder what the rich folks are up too.

Big shout out to and special thanx to Drew at Wainman Hawaii & Chris G. at Kite Naked in Sacramento for setting me up with awesome Wainman gear.

And especially to my lovely kiting companion, Lisa for her grace & beauty and patience. (wink)
 I'm such a lucky guy.

As always Life is good and I am grateful!

hasta luego!
